It seems almost poetic that Downtown Miami’s tulip-inspired tower will receive its massive foundation pour on Easter weekend. Ringing in the Spring, 1,200 trucks will deliver over 20,225,000 pounds of concrete to Okan Tower‘s build site at 555 North Miami Avenue for 36 straight hours beginning tomorrow night at 9pm.
When completed, the foundation will measure 234 feet x 140 feet and 14 feet deep, requiring 6 concrete pumps, over 5 million pounds of reinforcing steel and 160 drivers working in 4 shifts. The foundation is the first step of vertical construction for Okan Tower, which will stand 902 feet tall upon completion in 2027.
With its staggering 902 foot height, Okan Tower will be one of the tallest towers in the Downtown Miami skyline, bringing 70 floors of residences that are broken down into sections. There will be a 316-key hotel that is flagged as the Hilton Miami Bayfront Hotel, 236 short term rental-friendly residences and 163 condominium residences. in addition to 64,000 square feet of Class A office space and a full suite of amenities.
“This marks a significant milestone for the Okan Tower team, and we are filled with pride and excitement as our vision for Miami’s skyline transforms into a reality,” Bekir Okan, Chairman of Okan Group and Okan Tower’s developer. “Okan Tower represents the vibrant and dynamic future that awaits Downtown and we look forward to this exciting next phase of the construction process as we go vertical.”
In a nod to the developer’s native country of Turkey, architect Behar Font & Partners designed Okan Tower in resemblance of a tulip, Turkey’s national flower. Domestically, the flower represents rebirth, new beginnings, happiness and good fortune, making the design an all-around welcome addition to the skyline.
Okan Tower will be the first tower in the United States for Okan Group, though they enjoy a full portfolio of worldwide projects that have given them a stellar reputation in construction, banking, textile, production, and tourism industries.
