Brickell, also referred to as the ‘Manhattan of the South,’ is a chic, sophisticated neighborhood located in Greater Downtown Miami, just south of Downtown Miami proper. Brickell has been known for decades as South Florida’s financial district and is now recognized as the 2nd largest international banking hub in the country. Further, Brickell has rapidly grown into one of the hautest neighborhoods in Miami to call home. This is largely due to the mass new construction that the community has experienced since the early 2000’s.
In the early 2000’s, renowned developers began to develop new residential condo towers throughout Brickell along Biscayne Bay and the interior corridor of the community, along with new commercial buildings to provide ample retail and office space for the new residents and visitors, alike. In 2006, Mary Brickell Village, which is still a popular mixed-use project today, was completed. Mary Brickell Village, which is located along South Miami Avenue in the heart of Brickell, was the first mega mixed-use project introduced to Brickell, offering boutique shopping, dining and entertainment.
Brickell has continued to boom, to say the least, within the last two decades, so it is no wonder that its population tripled from 2000 to 2016, and the trendy neighborhood shows no signs of slowing down. In 2016, Hong Kong and London-based real estate conglomerate, Swire Properties, completed the ‘city within a city,’ in the heart of Brickell in which they dubbed ‘Brickell City Centre,’ which is a $1+ Billion mixed-use work/play/live project offering a chic hotel called EAST, Miami, Class-A office space, over 500,000 square feet of shopping and two luxury condo buildings, Rise at Brickell City Centre and Reach at Brickell City Centre.
Today’s popularity of Brickell can be largely attributed to its cosmopolitan feel, cool restaurants & bars, walkability and convenient location. Brickell is not only located steps from an eclectic variety of shopping, dining and entertainment, but is just minutes from Downtown Miami’s Frost Science Museum, American Airlines Arena, Perez Art Museum and Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts, only minutes from Coconut Grove and Wynwood and less than 15 minutes from South Beach and the Miami International Airport.
Although Brickell is widely known as Miami’s financial district, it could easily be referred to as the entertainment district because there is so much to do throughout this cosmopolitan metropolis. Not only do you have Brickell City Centre, which offers an array of casual and upscale shopping, anchored by a 107,000-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue, you have a variety of entertainment including an ultra-luxe movie theatre, CMX, an assortment of 5-star spas and an eclectic collection of bars such as the Miami staple Blackbird Ordinary, a low-key local’s favorite Better Days, exciting sports bar with great food in Batch Gastropub or a high-end rooftop bar, Sugar at EAST, Miami hotel. Brickell also offers some of the most delicious casual and ritzy restaurants in Miami such as Luke’s Lobster which has the yummiest sustainable lobster and crab rolls, Raw Juice which has the most delightful Acai bowls and juices, Le Petite Maison which offers delicious French-Mediterranean dishes, the famed Cipriani offering authentic Italian fare, The River Seafood Oyster Bar which is a Miami staple and the BEST Chinese restaurant in Miami, Hutong.
Brickell offers a variety of condo living options including affordable mid-rise residential buildings from the late 80’s to luxury iconic condo towers from the early 2000’s offering incredible water views such as Four Seasons and Santa Maria to brand-new high-rise condo towers with ultra-luxe interiors and unparalleled amenities, such as Reach and Rise at Brickell City Centre, Echo Brickell and Brickell Flatiron, which was inspired by the famous Flatiron Building in New York City. Also, one of the most sought-after condo buildings currently under construction in Brickell is the 47-story, yacht-inspired waterfront tower Una Residences, which is being developed by Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin and was designed by the world-renowned Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, who is well-known for designing the world’s tallest structure the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, as well as the building projected to surpass it, the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia.
